Food Waste Project
In June 2024, TCAGI board member Jack Hunzinger and founder Sophie Kim collaborated to host a food waste audit on the campus of their high school. They recruited a total of 18 volunteers, collected & analyzed 21 trash bags, and found 257 completely untouched fruits. The site at which the food waste audit was conducted, Huntington Beach High School, is composed of over 2,000 students and serves about 850 meals to its students on any given day.

Building off of their findings, the pair is currently working on a report and video essay to present to district leaders in the Fall with recommendations regarding how the school can limit food waste in the future.

COMING SOON:
a video on food waste
We created this video to synthesize our findings in a more accessible manner to complement our report in disseminating our findings to a wider audience. We hope our project will inspire other schools and public places to conduct food waste audits and make the necessary changes to minimize waste, thereby mitigating climate change in the process.
